sachin tendulkar

“I have never seen Bradman but heard people talk about him. But I tell you what, if Bradman could bat like this man does then he was dynamite. Players like Sachin deserve to be preserved in cotton wool.” Famous quote from the Bengal tiger Saurov Ganguly. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, generally known as Sachin Tendulkar is an Indian Cricket player who is considered to be one of the all time greatest batsmen to have ever played the game of Cricket. The renowned Cricket magazine Wisden ranked Sachin Tendulkar the 2nd all time greatest Test Cricket batsman, only after Sir Donald Bradman at the 1st place in the year 2002. Also, the magazine ranked him the 2nd all time greatest ODI batsman after Viv Richards at the first spot. No matter what the rankings and all whenever India opts to bat we often sat in front of the TV for this maestro to lead India with his awesome blade. We can’t compare this man to any one because he is the god of cricket .While watching a cricket match there will be people saying or people keeping the posters with the sayings like “if cricket is a religion then Sachin is the god”.

Sachin Tendulkar was born on 24th of April, 1973 in Mumbai to a Marathi Novelist, Ramesh Tendulkar. Sachin got inspired to play cricket from his elder brother Ajit, and started playing the game at an early age in his school, Sharadashram Vidya Mandir. Under the guidance of his coach, Ramakant Achrekar, he learnt the basics of the game and showed his passion to cricket along with his school mate and another future batsman of the Indian team, Vinod Kambli. He do have a passion in tennis also. Nick Name: The Master Blaster, the Little Champion, the Bombay Bomber. He made his test debut at Karachi against Pakistan in 1989/90. The interesting fact is that he made his ODI debut was also against Pakistan at Gujranwala. Often his batting style is right hand batman and his bowling style is like right arm off break, leg break , right arm medium ., leg break googly. He holds several batting records, including the most Test centuries and the most one-day international centuries, also the first man on the planet to reach a milestone of scoring the highest individual runs also the double hundred in a one day international match .He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India’s highest sporting honour, for 1997-1998, and the civilian award Padma Shri in 1999. Tendulkar was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997. Early days Born in Mumbai (then Bombay) into a middle-class family. Sachin Tendulkar was named after his family’s favorite music director Sachin Dev Burman. He went to Sharadashram Vidyamandir School where he started his cricketing career under Coach Ramakant Achrekar.

While at school, he was involved in a mammoth 664 run partnership in a Harris Shield game with friend and team mate Vinod Kambli. In 1988/1989, he scored 100 not-out in his first first-class match, for Bombay against Gujarat. At 15 years and 232 days he was the youngest to score a century on debut. Sachin played his first international match against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989, facing the likes of Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Abdul Qadir, and Waqar Younis. He made just 15 runs, being bowled by Waqar Younis, who also made his debut in that match. It was an inauspicious start, but Tendulkar followed it up with his maiden Test fifty a few days later at Faisalabad. His One-day International (ODI) debut on December 18 was equally disappointing, where he was dismissed without scoring a run, again by Waqar Younis. The series was followed by a non-descript tour of New Zealand in which he fell for 88 in a Test match, John Wright, who would later coach India, pouching the catch that prevented Tendulkar from becoming the youngest centurion in Test cricket. The long anticipated maiden Test century came in England’s tour in 1990 but the other scores were not remarkable. Tendulkar truly came into his own in the 1991-1992 tour of Australia that included a brilliant century on the fast and bouncy track at Perth. He has been Man of the Match 11 times in Test matches and Man of the Series twice, both times in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. His first ODI century came on September 9, 1994 against Australia in Sri Lanka at Colombo. It had taken Tendulkar 79 ODIs to score a century. Sachin Tendulkar is the only player to score a century while making his Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy debut.

The interesting thing is that his wife is elder than the batting wizard.Sachin’s father Ramesh Tendulkar was a Marathi novelist and was a great fan of Sachin Dev Burman. We all are familiar about the world cup in which his father sad demise made him to stay back from the squad .after all funerals and all he returned to the squad with a blasting century. At that point of time all in the world was aware of the fact that he is not enjoying that century, but just he is dedicating that wonderful century to his lovely father. After that whenever he scores a half century or a century he will look at the sky and pray to his father. That’s quite emotional while seeing that.

Immensely gifted and blessed with an impeccable technique, Tendulkar's batting is a dream, combining timing, elegance and power. Mentally very strong, Tendulkar is best when confronted by a challenge - as he showed when mowing down Shane Warne in India in 1998. Captain during two short stints, Tendulkar has made it clear that he would prefer to concentrate on his batting and indeed, he seems to be getting better with every passing year. Scoring two double centuries in successive seasons and being the first to cross the 10,000 run barrier in ODIs is clear proof of this.

While his batting ranks him among the best in the world, he is also a part-time bowler and has played a crucial role as a leg spinner or a medium pace bowler who tends to break partnerships. He has more than a hundred wickets in ODIs and 35 in tests, though his bowling averages are above 40. He continues to perform well under the massive weight of expectation of hundreds of millions of cricket followers, in India and around the world, and most recently was named Player of the Tournament in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. Incidentally, Sachin is the first batsman to be declared run out by third umpire in 1992 in South Africa.

“ I hate losing and cricket being my first love, once I enter the ground it's a different zone altogether and that hunger for winning is always there” said by the legend Sachin is always a leading light for the youngsters. Sachin Tendulkar has become the first-ever batsman to score 200 in an ODI (one-day international) against South Africa. Sachin's score officially makes him the Michael Jordan of cricket after the India vs. RSA match.

The former highest-scoring batsmen were Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry with 194 not out in a one-day match, and Pakistan's Saeed Anwar with 194.

It is the fifth international hundred of the year for Tendulkar, to go with four hundreds in Tests against South Africa and Bangladesh. He now has 93 hundreds in international cricket. His previous best in one-day internationals was 186 against New Zealand in 1999. His batting style is tremendous especially his shot of a short pitch ball that we seen during the newzeland series.

He played about 169 tests and it’s a record also for playing the most number of tests. He scored about 13837 runs in test and it’s an incredible figure to watch out. His highest score in test is 248* and he averages about 56.02. He scored about 48 hundreds and 56 fifties. He scored about 57 sixes in all these test matches. That’s too incredible.

Let’s see his ODI status: played about 442 ODIs and in these he scored up to about 17598 runs that too the most incredible figure that the cricket history has ever seen. Scored about 46 hundreds and 93 fifties this man again and again proving as the gem stone for India.

He played about 272 first class innings and scored about 22730 runs at an average about 59.34 and owns a highest score of about 248*.

In 2007 Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne names him at Number 1 on his list of 50 greatest cricketers ever. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown suggests Sachin should be conferred with an honorary knighthood for his contribution to international cricket. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year. He has done it six times - 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003.In 1998 he made 1,894 ODI runs, still the record for ODI runs by any batsman in any given calendar year. In 1998 he hit 9 ODI centuries, the highest by any player in an year. Most runs (1732 at an average of 59.72) in World Cup Cricket History. Player of the Tournament in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. He scored about 673 runs in 2003 World Cup, highest by any one in a single Cricket World Cup.

Apart from all these busy schedules and all the busy innings this man is too incredible to the society also. When Sachin joins the social network called TWITTER he now holds the most number of followers by an Indian. But the major difference between Sachin and other celebrities is he utilizes this social network to someone who is incapable of seeking help. That’s what we saw Sachin requesting his followers to donate to the welfare of cancer patients. And finally we saw in the news and newspapers that about lakhs of rupees been collected for the welfare through this. He took the initiative for the treatment of his childhood friend. I must say that he is a complete man or a complete individual. When an individual is accepted socially, professionally and personally then he becomes a complete man. His temperament to cricket is awesome and incredible.

Tendulkar has shown some of his best batting performances against the Cricket team of Australia, one of the strongest teams during his period. As a matter of fact, the legendary Sir Donald Bradman had at one time reportedly told her wife that the playing style of Sachin reminded him of his own game in his youth.

Sachin has always created new records and destroyed innumerable of them that had been already established. At the age of 17 years he scored his first Test century, and by the age of 25 he had scored 16 of them. At the moment he is the Cricketer with largest number of Test and ODI centuries to his credit, and outclassed Brian Lara as the biggest Test scorer in the year 2008.

“ I always had a dream to play for India but I never let it put pressure on me” as Sachin says ,we must admire his character his passion to reach his goal, his commitment ,his dedication and all is totally incredible and this feature makes him differ from any other players in the history of cricket. Lot of young talented players are coming to the Indian squad day by day and the interesting fact is that when ever these youngsters becomes a hero and start giving interview they usually say about the lessons taught by the most senior man in the dressing room . At this age also he is a genuine athlete in the field and if he retires from the Indian squad then am sure, when ever India starts to play without him all the televisions must be off and we won’t bother to see the match ball by ball. The importance of this little master is huge in all generations. That much impact he has made to the field of cricket.
